OK, most everybody has been complaining of loss of power and a big loss of fuel mileage since the re-flash. Wish I had been a viewer of the site before I had it done and would not of done it. Oh well, hind site again.
Didn't seem to effect power so much as mileage....18mpg down to 13 mpg.
But now that it is done, question is:
Will a programer of anykind help. Which would be the most easiest, affordable, and do the best to help with power and mileage.
First of all, what year truck, what flash? I had my '05 and the thing runs great. Milage is actually not bad. 17-18 hwy 75mph avg. Not knocking you just really wonder how/why results are so different with the same flash?
It is a F-250 SD X-cab 2004. Don't know what re-flash, was a recall notice.
Complained about the smoking afterwards (white smoke on start-up, untill warm), dealer did whatever, but still does it and poor fuel mileage. Not running winter blend and mileage is still poor. 65 mph - 75 mph the console read-out says 12.5, pencil out 13.9. Didn't seem to effect power though.
Again will after-market help much.
I had the recall flash done on my 05 a good while back and I've had no problems. I saw a few posts about problems with the flash, but "most everybody" is not having problems with it. Most are just fine with it, and some have found improvements with it.
Just my observations-- ford is making a change in handheld diagnostic tools(wds is no longer supported) did they flash it with a pda looking outfit or a laptop or the wds. there has been issues with only receiving half of the flash.
Same boat here Wyoguy, went in for the recall. mileage went from 16/17 hot rodding around town to 12/13. had it back to the dealer twice. was told it was set at Ford's specifications, and nothing is wrong. now after 6 months or so i am haveing no power isues. maybe they can figure it out this time. Think they will reimburse me my lost fuel costs for the lost mileage? Right!
Glad somebody believes me.........keep in touch, maybe we can get this figured out. Talked to friend of mine today. He had and 03 with tons of problems, got re-flashed 4 or 5 times....ford never could get it right........traded for an 05, he got 19mpg right out of box............5000 miles on it now 12 mpg......he is pissed.
Maybe the rebate of 5000.00 don't look so bad on a V-10 or HEY, how about a duramax, most guys around here are 18-21 with duramax............NO, a V-10.
Fuel today in Wyo $3.15, unleaded $2.69. You do the math.
I had the EBS recall done. Mileage did drop a little without my downloader but after I reinstalled it it went right back to where it was. They used a PDA looking device when they did mine. The Service Advisor (Cool Guy) said that I probably wouldn't be able to reload my downloader. He was right, then I checked the Bully Dog website and saw a new version. Upgraded and shazam it works just like it used to!
Hey all, Recently bought an 05 F350 4x2 drw with 50,000 miles on it, they replaced 2 injectors before I bought it, after driving for a week or so was noticing very sluggish power and very rough idle for the first 10 minutes and lots of white smoke, ran the vin # through ford and truck had never been in for any type of service or recalls or reflashes, after reading on here all the posts of reflashes and other things I took the truck back and they found 3 more bad injectors and did the reflashes. my milage before the work was done was around 14 to 15 hand calculated, the last two tanks after the service and reflashes was 17. The overall power and acceleration is good except for take off where there is a small lag untill the turbo spools up 1 to 2 seconds. I contacted the person who owned this truck and basically he did not preform maintenance on schedule, oil ,air and fuel filter and changes. I am pretty sure thats why the injectors had failed. Anyway I am satisfied with the way the truck performs and really beleive that maintenence is the key to a long lasting diesel engine.
Have a great day.

Oh, we believe you wyoguy. It's not that. It's just that so many have had successful updates without problems. I suspect the guy who did yours missed something or screwed up something else. Not uncommon in dealerships.
