On the '04 Ranger, the heater/AC has a musty moldy smell when set on defrost, def/feet or vent. Wife has allergies and they set it off. Setting on full heat for a few minutes seems to help but only temporarily. [The heater not the wife!]
Anyone else have this problem?
Any solutions? [Besides leave the wife at home, which might be an option...]
Probably mold in the heater/air conditioning case, or in the ducting, or possibly in the evaporator. I've heard of TSB's on this issue, but I don't know exactly which ones.
Some people have had luck with Lysol sprayed in the vents.

I had a similar problem with my '99 Ranger and my wife is sensative to smells and chemicals. Picked up A/C duct cleaning product called Pure Air at the local parts store. It comes in a blue & white 8oz spray can. Sprayed the product into the A/C air intake at the cowl vents following the directions on the can. It eliminated the musty smell and didn't have that strong perfume smell. Mfg. claims that it eliminates bacteria, mold, mildew; it did the trick as advertised and we are both very pleased. Only had to give it one application and the problem hasn't come back. Good luck
