Surface Rust/New Trucks
Has anyone noticed that some of the new Ford trucks on dealers' lots seem to have a lot of rust/corrosion on the underside? I recently saw several with rusty bolts on the frame, and severely rusted exhaust pipes. Trucks look like they have been sitting at the beach for six months. Is this normal, and just a result of the vehicles being transported through snow, etc.? Others look pristine.

I haven't noticed this personally, however any exposed steel will rust due to moisture in the air. The layer of paint on the frame is often too thin (or non existant) to stop rust at all. Sounds somewhat normal to me.

That surface layer of rust is actually a layer of protection from TRUE corrosion. The factory 'undercoating' is like someone had gone over the frame with a Sharpie.
