I have the chance to pick up a brand new never used Banks bighead for the wate gate. for $50
I was wondering if it really helps performance or should i just put it on the shelf incase my factory one goes out, I do live in the cold climate so i really like it for helping get the engine warmed up faster...thank

U don't need it. Just disconnect the red pressure line to the wastegate (gold) canister and you'll get more boost. Do u have a WW?

Is this ok to do. are there any side effects? what exactly is this doing?
Any time u change certain stock parameters you're going to have some side effects. By disconnecting the line u get about 3-5psi more boost. The Banks unit is built with a stiffer spring to keep the wastegate closed longer. When using the BHA u should probably install the Banks turbo housing with it or atleast an equivalent 1.00A/R housing like mine(ATS 1.00). This will help your turbo bearings last longer. The turbo is rated for about 25psi max. boost. I've had my
red line disconnected for almost a year now and i check the turbo bearings regularly. No problems so far.I also tensioned the spring so the wastegate doesn't open as easy(a BHA for free!) Currently i'm installing a 1.00A/R exhaust housing to even up pressures on my turbo. Also adding a Turbomaster wastegate controller for exact wastegate control.

IM not hard on the truck I do watch my Boost carefully...Im underthe impression that the factory can go up 30psi and still have a good service life, Right now I have tested mine to see what i can get up and i have never seen anything over 22-23psi. im usally undernormal driving empty dont go over 11psi and i dont tow much..

The stock unit wll go to 30psi but for short times it's ok. U won't see over 22-23psi because of the wastegate opening
and pcm causing the engine to defuel. To hit 30psi u have to mod the turbo and chip the truck.

Thank, PSNUT,,, what im really wondering, is are there any real performance of smoother running with a bighead...the price is really good even compared to factory/aftermarket, just dont know if i should make an exception to install it or back up...

About all you'll get is faster spool up and more boost(which will help with EGT's).No other performance gains.
