I have a problem that I hope you all can help me with. My brother has an 2000 psd and he was complaining that his fuel milege dropped from around 17-18 all the way down to about 12 or 13 in about a week. I opend the hood and I could smell raw diesel. I looked at the filter bowl first didnt really see anything but I could see down on the block there was diesel sitting on top of the block. I wiped everything up and ran it again for awhile and it came back. I know its not from the fliter lid. Could it be the O-rings on the drain that are bad?? Thats what I'm leaning towards. If and anyone has some idea let me know. Thanks again guys.
my filter drain valve/waterseperator o-rings went bad and i had a pretty steady leak on the back of the bowl. its a common thing and pretty cheap to fix, but is kind of a pain in the *** to fix but not to difficult.
Yeah we just went to black cloud and orderd the O-rings. Looking at it, it dose seem like a pain to get in there and all but that that bad. Thanks again for the help, just wanted to run it by and make sure it wasnt somthing else. Thanks
My son and I just replaced those pesky devils last weekend. Cured the problem completely. We are novices with these diesels but it wasn't too bad. As you suspect, there isn't much room back there. It was helpful for us to unplug the three electrical connectors in that area and take off the bracket on the front of the Y pipe. We also found value in a rag stuffed down in the valley below the valve to catch dropped screws...We were concerned about the o-rings falling out when we went to put the valve housing back in place, but no problem. They fit snugly in the housing. Don't forget a little white grease.
