Glow Plug removal

Well it finally warmed up enough, so I could change out the drivers side bank of glow plugs. Not as bad as I thought I was going to be. Couple hours and back on the road. The only PITA was the breather on the valve cover. The one thing I did noticed and wondered about, the intake air tube to the turbo was oily and the boot at the Y tube going to the intercooler had a small puddle of oil it. From what I read here I wasn't to worried about the intake tube, but what about the oil in the Y tube boot? Also have any of ya changed out the breather, and if so was it bad or just time to do it. Thanks FTE for all the help, Nodak!!

I'm fixing to do both sides of my 99 PSD, any helpful hints or suggestions before I tear into it? Hopefully I can do it tomorrow.

I just did all 8 of mine no too long ago. I was debating on changing my crankcase breather as well, but after hearing how much ford wanted for a new one, and considering I've never even heard of anyone changing theres, I left it alone. Just watch out for the o-rings on those. They like to not seal back up when you take them off. A little RTV takes care of those. Before you pull out the glow plugs, make sure to get all the oil that sits around them. You can use some cue tips to get it all. A little will leak into the cylinder but that should be ok. And if you have a nice auto magnet that will help to pull them out.

Mine has the same oil leaks as yours. Theres oil every where in my turbo system. But it shouldn't mean anything, my runs great.....Well it did, now I'm loosing compression in my cylinders, so now I'm screwed.

The only suggestion I can make, is remove the 7.3 cover and the mounting bracket, so you do not break it. I broke mine, and the bracket cost around $25. Other then that the maget wroks great. Good luck, Nodak

It's best to use a 1/4 drive deep socket and even then sometimes you have to grind the socket a little skinny at the top so you can get out past the rocker arm. Other than that it's just like long skinny spark plugs.
