6.9 temp

Just wondering what temp a 6.9 should "normally" run at? The gauge in the dash has no numbered units, it just has a "NORMAL" and a "HOT".. So I got a regular temp gauge (Hastings), but need to no what is the REAL normal temp??? The new gauge spans 130 deg to 290, so I'd like to know where to put my "HOT" marker...
Just wondering how long the block sensor lasts, do they ever pack it in and give false readings? Just that my 6.9 is still in the norm temp but it's higher (at the high end of normal towards hot) than it used to be. And in the last 8 months I have installed a new rad, waterpump, thermostat, and there are no head leaks and the heater core is fine.....

normal operating temp is 195 degs. i think the overheat sensor turns on the engine light at 244 degs. the factory gages are useless normal can be any tempature at any time, mechanical gages are only way to watch the temp
When you changed your tstat did you use an oem motorcraft tstat?
useing any other tstat will casue you to overheat. you must use the oem tstat from a ford or international dealer

The thermostat was an aftermarket one, not from Ford.. but it was put in 6-8 months ago and seemed fine up to this point.. Then just the other day out on the Highway the guage read higher than it usually does... I just don't look forward to putting another thermostat in but if I have to.. no problem and a cheap fix....

My normal info usually fits 80% of the trucks.........

CAUTION:
The specified/required thermostat does not contain an internal bypass, since the bypass is located in the cylinder block. Whenever the thermostat is replaced, it is mandatory that only Motorcraft E5TZ-8575-C or Navistar 1807974C94 thermostat be installed.

CAUTION:
Do not attempt to repair any thermostat. It should be replaced if it is not operating properly.

Check the new thermostat before installing it for correct opening temperature. Before suspending in boiling water, with a flashlight check where the rubber and the flat metal flange meet for bad seal. Tstat should start to opening barely at 180-192f, fully open 200-212f, allow to cool and check for rubber seal again.

Removal: Disconnect batteries, drain 4+ gals A/F, remove: as required, fan belt, alternator set aside, alt bracket, remove filter support from fuel filter then e/block. Disconnect upper rad hose at rad, remove tstat bolts and housing. Clean both faces, depression and holes in block, ensure check ball in goosekneck is clean, free and rattles "do not remove".
Installation is reverse proceedure, I do not use sealant on gaskets and faces. REMEMBER the tstat pellet(copper end) goes into the block. I do use a "very small amount" of sealant on the edge of the tstat face when installing into the recess, now go for coffee, allow sealant to setup, this has saved me from tstat slippage when the gasket and goosekneck are installed. Replace all items in reverse order......

Manifold bolt torque......... 20ftlbs
