God Bless Texas!! I love it down there. My bro-in-law is a firefighter in Houston. Every time we visit him and his family, my wife and I get the severe "grass is greener in Texas so we want to move there" itch.

I just love it. And, since it is Ford country, that makes it that much tougher.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS" Yee-haw!!

I have a friend here that has a Duramax. Last winter he had his injectors replaced and new glow plugs installed.

I don't remember the exact number on the bill, but it was more than I paid for a complete drop in IDI 7.3 turbo engine.

I would want to run right out and get one of those trucks.

Chev/Ford ratio? Exactly what is this ratio? Hasn't Ford lost alot of the diesel market over the past 4-5 years?

I didn't say that chev goes without problems, but it was the fact that Ford really did nothing about their's. The injector problem that Chev had, sure it was a big problem, but then again they extended the warranty to 100,000 miles on the injectors. Sure I can name a bunch more problems with the chev, transmission modules, injectors, glow plugs falling off....... but for the most part it is just as reliable if not more than the 6.0 ford.

The title of the tread is test pilots wanted, did it once with the 6.0, not again.........

Prolly? I think the ratio is far less than that. I don't have exact numbers, but the last time I saw evidence the Ford had 50% with the others around 25 each. But I was reading something that said it was more like 40% now, with the others around the 30% mark.....and prolly still losing ground.

Your numbers are closer to being correct.

The PSD used to have about a 70% share of the diesel market in 1999-2000. It is now down to ~50% or less (last numbers that I saw).

But more importantly, the diesel market has been growing the last 6 years. So Ford is getting a smaller % of a growing market. A big double whammy.

I think it important to note that Ford shut down the spur line at KTP used to make the X rather than increase SD production. That alone should tell you something.

Well in my area (Spring/Houston) the acutal ratio varies. In fact, there almost is no ratio; but if you were to tally up all the heavy duty trucks you saw in one day, you'd see more Ford (old and new) than anything else. I'm not a very biased person when it comes to the "Diesel Wars" thing. But just out of curiosity, I'll tally what I see and post the results accordingly.

My friend has a 85 chevy duley 6.5 desiel, he says, and it cant pull a greased string out of a cats a$$. That has NO POWER. One of my Lt. at my fire dept. has a 6.0 F-350 and has no problems with it at all. At my work we have 3 life squads that are 01 with 87000 miles on 1 and 74000 miles on the other 2. no problems with them yet.
FMC keep up the good work.

Isn't the Ford warranty also good for 100,000 miles (with a $100 deductable after 36,000)?

On edit: I just went out to my truck and checked. Warranty on engine is for 100,000 miles or 5 years with the above stated deductable.
