Ok I was reading the radiator swap thread this morning and it got me thinking.
Ok I heard you guys take a deep breath....
I run a 17" flex fan on my 352 65 f100(will have to go measure to be sure). It cools great but I heard that these fans cost you horse power and fuel mileage. I have an electric fan I could install and ditch the fan all together of I was thinking of using a clutch fan. My only problem with the electric is the electrical that goes with it always looks sad and I would like to keep it clean under the hood.
JD, I suspect there are many opinions on that issue, and most would not apply to the FE. I think you would have to go to a controlled test to get any answers. There is too much muscle there. IMHO
Yeah I'm a bit biased to about the FE having more than enough to run the fan. Was just kind of brain storming..
It probably wouldn't be enough of a power drain to notice.
I like 5 or 6 blade steel fans with a clutch and shroud. 100% Ford Junkyard stuff. I use a 190 degree thermostat and never overheat. Not even in commuter Hot Lanta traffic.
I put a clutch setup(Ford junkyard stuff) on a '67 w/ a 410. I dont think there was noticable MPG/power differance, but it sure made a lot less noise....
