My insurance company informed me they don't insure anything over 25', OK, who has an enclosed car trailer over 25', who do you use and how much does it cost you?

Our camping tailer, granted its a pop up trailer, is covered by our homeowners insurance when its parked at home and covered by out automobile insurance when its connected to the truck.

You may want to double check your homeowners insurance...

Most will not cover any vehicle parked on the property, I know this is true in Florida. Your Pop-Up is considered to be a vehicle. Vehicles are not covered by homeowners insurance even if they are stored or parked inside a garage.

They are moveable, and there-by not part of the structure.

If your homeowners insurance covers your pop-up. Then does it cover your car, truck, boat, PWC, boat trailer without a boat on it and so on?? Nope..

Best check it again....

IIRC, we checked that a few years ago and they did indeed cover it when its parked at home. Of course other insurance policies/carriers may be different.

MisterCMK, I see your in Fargo, well atleast theres a couple of us on here from the state, lol. I recently checked these same things and you may want to ask your ins. carrier about that again. My agent told me if something happens to my camper while hooked to the vehicle the vehicle ins. will indeed cover it, problem comes in when the trailor "unhooks" from the tow vehicle. If the trailor is not connect to the vehicle when the vehicle comes to rest it will NOT cover the camper. and chances of your trailor staying complete attached to your TV if you were to get in an accident is slim. Also my HomeOwners Ins. doesn't cover anything related to vehicles weather it be a camper, my cars , my truck, tractor or the boats I have in my shop. I specifically asked if the two boats would be covered if the shop were to burn down for some god awfull reason, her reply was "not a chance", the shop is covered for $40k in which I would also recieve up to and additional 40k for posessions in the building but this doesn't cover the two boats I have in there or my W6 tractor which is also usually in there, I think its bull***** also, but I can't argue with what the policy says.

I think you're talking about the liability coverage coverage that only covers the damage you do to others. Auto insurance does not cover damage to the trailer without the trailer being insured an an additional premium paid for it. In most places, a trailer is covered by your homeowner's policy for damage done to it on the residence premises but it is limited to $1,000 and then only for the perils specified in the homeowners policy. The homeowners deductible also applies.

Insurance is such a scam, isn't it?

I am up in Fargo from September-May for school, then I go live with my parents back home in the Twin Cities. I absolutely love it up in Fargo though. Its a lot less busy than the cities, however it has all of the convieniences of the cities. We really should have a meet up there. I have seen a few people on here from Fargo.

As for the insurance. I just asked my parents about it since its their trailer, and you are correct. It is not covered unless it is connected to the tow vehicle. It does seem ridiculous that that they will not cover your boats even though they are parked in the shop. You would think that the homeowners covers you, but I guess not. One more reason that I hate insurance companies.

Your correct about that jake, anything that is not equipment on the vehicle is covered under your homeowners in theft, not sure in a accident. The reason for this is they are considered possesions and are generally not vehicle specific but yet they'll pick up radar detectors and stuff that cann't be used in the home. I know my homeowners even covers my guns up to $1200 if for some reason some one was to steel one while I was out hunting or if I was to lean it against my truck and forget about it and drive away or back over it. Insurnace is a big scam but as long as your prepared and know what the fine lines say you can protect yourself from those short comings, of course with more Insurance. now if that isn't a scam I don't what is.

What this all boils down to is you need to talk to the agent and get the specifics for what coverage you have and any additional you need. I did with mine and to get every thing no matter what was only $12.00 a month, but I also need it because I use mine on jobs so I have to have commercial coverage for everything including the truck and tools. Find a good and honest agent and work with them.

All my stuff is insured through Gieco(including 5th wheel), kind of a running joke now with all my buds, nonetheless, all same vehicles with same coverage, they were about 200 every 6 mo. cheaper than Mutual of Enumclaw. I don't know what the exact cost of trailer coverage is.
