What do you need to know? What kind of info, or pics are you interested in? I have several photos that I have found on the net, and have a few Big Job books, including the illustrated parts catalog. Fire away with your questions.
im just looking for some pics. if i could find a truck in bc that would be cool but im really just looking for some info. my grandpa had a 56 500,600,700 and an 800 on air. the 700 was what he started his company with but it ended up burining in a barn fire. but yeah im just looking for pics and factory info.
Here's a '56 Big Job I found on ebay. I still have the guys e-mail address, and may be able to get him to sell it as a whole, because he was just listing the cab and hood. It's in pretty decent shape.
Hi, if I could ask a question from you boys with the big rigs, I'd like to know what powered them, from the smallest to the largest in cu. in., and did they have diesel power back then. The reason I am asking, I got a cab and front clip from a F600 and never gave thought about the engine that was in it, I thought I saw a tag saying it was a 312 cu in but I'm not sure and from reading some of the posts on this form says that the y block was a very good power plant and was thinking that I should maybe look at scoring it, I was told that it ran when it was parked.
In the early 70's my Dad had one of those,it had a horizontal boom on it that extended out about 8 ft behind it and outriggers,we used it to load, transport and unload 1,000 gallon concrete septic tanks (we made them) in the Northern Lower Penninsula of Michigan. The one we had used gas.
I know they had the 292 which was reliable and could get the job done. The biggest I heard about is the 534, 477, 401, 352, 332, a 302 (big block) not the normal small block one we are used to.
The 401 I guess but there is oe around tat size
The 352 I guess is a bit newer.
The 302 and 332 are big block predoceures to the 390's FE which were very reliable motors I saw a 332 motor in a 1957 single axle semi.
The 292/312 is a versatile motor that with difffrent options could be used in anything from a Tbird car to pickups and with a different type head was effecient as a 2 or 3 ton motor. Not overloaded with power but a luggerin its day. If you have a running decent Yblock there is no need to chnge but if it is blown a upgrade to a 361/391 is probally a better alternative.
