1968? rear end

I have a 1968 F-250 and I discovered something the weekend I did the rear brakes. After getting the real seal home we discovered that it did not fit. We took the old seal with us to the parts store and discovered that the rear end is a 69 and 69 only. But I thought that I had a 68. Does anyone have any information regarding this and can fill me in as to what I have? Thanks for any help or information.

I think the parts guy is blowing smoke! Differential are not year specific. For example Ford used a 9 inch rear inntrucks and cars since 1957. If you ask a parts person for a wheel bearing for a 57 Ford he will faint. Ask for a wheel bearing for a Ford 9 inch and there will be no problem. Main thing is that you got the right part. Always if possible, take the old parts with you, this will help the parts guy find the right stuff.

I agree with William, you should have a Dana 60 in your '68 F250. If you have a hard time with auto supply houses, I'd suggest a differential/drive train shop. I've found them to have everything I need.
