Hello all blue oval fans I have 2002 Ford F-350 PSD Extened cab short box. I just got a fith wheel camper and I think my truck is to high. I am going to put in smaller spacers on rear and try adjusting hitch on camper. Any help
Depending on which camper you got, it should add quite a bit of pin weight to your rig, bringing it down. I pull a fifth wheel toy hauler with my 06 F350 and a goose neck trailer, no height issues.
Your camper should have some adjustment in the spring schakles and if need be you can add a larger walking arm between the springs. Have a 93 crew cab ton high-boy that I have added about 2" to the suspension and the camper dealer lifted the camper to the hight needed for clerance. Way to judge is hook to camper.....the distance between bed and bottom of camper overhang should be about 6 inches. Easy way to measure is width of hand plus thumb extended.
wouldn't you be reducing payload? (essentially making it a 250, since the 250 has smaller blocks?)
The blocks have nothing to do with the payload.
The factory ( aswell as Dodge) reduced the spacer block height on early Superdutys...
I can't remember what years had what spacers...But I am in the trailer business and I remember a TSB on the bed height issue... Ford made a change to lower blocks...
I wouldn't recomend lowering the suspension more than 2" w/o getting lowered shocks...But in most cases 1" should be enough.
I would install the hitch, then load the 5vr and look at the vehicle height to the TT like stated above. With the weight of the TT, you might be quite level. If the back of the truck is still a bit high, then I wold consider an axle flip on the trailer. I just did that to my Travel Trailer and now all sits really level and eq hitch works great. With a 5vr you want the same level tow vehicle, level trailer. It really depends on the pin weight of your trailer and how much and where you load the trailer. Do put more pin weight load low as possible and ahead of trailer axles.
If you put an add a leaf in your frontend (leveling kit) you should be ok, it will level your truck out, giving you more clearance between the back of your box and the trailer neck. I have an 05 F350 I put a 6" Superlift on, but I only put 3" blocks in the rear. I also put 35" tires on. All combined it raised my truck 4" at the center of the rear axle, but only 2" at the reciever hitch. I hooked my 26' 5th wheel camper up last week, and still have good clearance. Good Luck.
If thats the case, what allows a f350 to have a higher payload, When the blocks are the only difference (99-04)
I believe they also added overload springs. that or spring rate may be higher. My 350 has overload springs and highest spring rate due to the camper package so the back end sits pretty high.
You don't say, has your truck been lifted? If it's stock, you should have no height issues unless the pin of the 5er has been lowered. Keep us posted, I'd like to learn more.
