I've noticed a humming noise coming from the rear of the turck lately. I laid underneath it and it seems to be coming from the gas tank (??). Does anybody know what this is? The truck is running fine, I'm just wondering if I should be worried about this...
It does it while the truck is running and it is continuous. I started noticing it about a week or so ago. I was thinking it might be the fuel pump. The truck is running smooth and gas mileage is OK.. (I just put in a new O2 sensor and cleaned the IAC and EGR valve)...
Ya, it sounds like the fuel pump. Usually they start to whine when they are going out. I have never replaced mine, but I know you have to drop the tank. Some people have cut a hole in the floor to get to it also, but I don't know if I would do that.
Usually they start to whine when they are going out.
they also start to whine when the fuel filter becomes restricted...the pump works harder when it tries to move fuel through a plugged filter, and it becomes noisier as a result...i would start by checking your filter first...
I replaced the fuel filter this morning. I followed the instructions in the Haynes manual. It took me 10 minutes and I did'nt get a drop of fuel on me. The fuel pump is still whining, but not as loud. The fuel guage is stable. I'm going to check my fuel pressure (and go ahead and pull codes). I can't really afford a fuel pump right now. Hopefully she'll hold study for the time being...
you're gonna have "some" noise from the pump, always...i've owned my '95 for 6 years now, and i can always hear a little whirring noise from the pump...if the engine starts-up normally, and has no drivability issues, you're prolly not going to find any fuel pressure problems...did you try to blow through the old fuel filter, to make sure it was clogged up?
I did blow through the old filter. It did'nt seem to be clogged to much. The truck starts up good and is running ok. I guess I'm tring to find out if this noise is normal. I'm trying to keep little things from turning into big things.I found a thread on FSB and it was saying the same thing as Yamaweezle. Sounds like I'm ok...
