Did Ford ever build a mid 70s short box f-250 4x4? I know they made 1/2 tons but I haven;t ever seen a 3/4. If they did where would a guy go about finding one. The body can be shot, I just need the drivetrain. The engine and tranny can be junk but I would like for the front and rear and the frame to be decent.
I don't think they ever did. Many years ago. I had a neighbor that made on from a 72 F250 4x4 and a 1/2 SB box. He just cut the frame, shortened, rewelded and added the box.
Looked great I recall.
The crew cab 4x4 was a shot bed and maybe the SuperCab. Other than that your best bet is to shorten a regular cab frame. My question is why would you want a short bed F-250?
Good question, why would I want one. Well, I have a 1950 f-2 that is in need of a little update. The body is good but the engine in toasted. I have a perkins diesel that needs a home and I figured that I may as well make the truck 4x4 if I am going to a little work. I have been told that the wheelbase are fairly close on the shortbeds as compared to the f-2. I do not know, as I have never measured either one. But I couldn't recall ever seeing a short bed 3/4t, with the exception of the cc.
thanks for the help
i saw one last weekend on the way to some land we ride and shoot on, it was a 73-77 becuase it had the letters in the grill i saw it from a distance but i definately saw leaf springs up front. it confused me when i saw it becuase i have never heard of them but i figured either someone chopped a frame or did a leaf spring conversion on a half ton.
Wheel bases:
Short box F-100/150 117"
Long box F100-350 133"
long box F-350 SCS 140"
short box SuperCab F-100-250 138.8"
Long box SuperCab F100-350 155"
short box CrewCab F-250-350 150.3"
long box CrewCab F-350 165.5"
cab and chassis F-350 137" or 161"
The wheel bases could be different by a couple tenths depending on what source you use. These numbers are from a Ford owners manual.
I would just find an F-150 shortbed frame, then put F-250 springs and axles under it..you might have to get creative attatching the front spring shackles and hangers to the frame, but the difference between the two frames isnt really gonna be that much....unless you plan on carrying heavy loads in the bed, the F-150 frame should hold up just fine for towing.....
HOW about a 73-79 LONG BED flare side? I came across one on a 73-79 1/2 ton frame but thought it was probably a transplant from an older long bed flare side truck?
they did make those, i know of atleast two galleries of one on this site, im just not sure whose they are. http://www.tocmp.com/brochures/Ford-...e/FP79-16.html that is the bed choices from 79 f-100 though f-250 had the option.
I've heard these are rare
I've got a 79 Short box F-100
I'm just starting work on the engine 351W(needs new carb/intake). Body and interior are still a ways off. I bought it for 1$ 4 years ago from a family friend and have used it every day since as a work truck. I've often wondered just how hard it would be to make it into a 3/4 ton 4X4. I like seeing the old brochures.
Thanks
