Whats up with the V6 chapter in my Haynes manual. Never saw one before and I've been around these 80+ trucks all my life. As far as I know they were never in a bronco so that leaves the F150. Anyone seen em?
They did indeed put the 3.8 liter 232 cu. in. V6s in light duty 1/2 ton 2wd Ford pickups in the early 80s. I heard they didn't hold up well, I did see one in a junkyard once...I believe it was an F150 I could be wrong though.
Ah, let me take you young bucks back a generation........
It was only available in the F100...the lighter weight version of the F series body.
Why? (you ask?) Well, there was a big push to get better gas mileage back then....overdrives were added, etc. All because of the high price of fuel.
In '82 the Explorer package was an F100, In '83 they started the small ranger. No it was never offered in the rangers, the V6 in '83 would have been a 2.6l.

Your right, although I have never seen one I know the 3.8 was an option for the 80's Fords, probably only the F-100. The first year for the Ranger compact truck was '83 and I don't belive it ever had a 3.8, I think the V6 in the earlier Rangers was a 2.9. Aren't the 3.8 and the 4.2 in the newer F-150's similar. I know that I've never really heard anything good about either one of them.
