frontend alignment/slippage
I breezed through NJ state inspection with my 1992 Ford F150 4X4 that has over 233,000 miles on it. Emmisions "Passed" Brakes "failed" did a brake job no problem (needed rear brake shoes). I understand what it means "check alignment", but I don't know what it means by "slippage" left front. It is in the shop now being checked. Could you enlighten me as to what the "State Inspector" is talking about? The shop mechanic isn't going to tell me anything. Thanks, Bill

He might be talking about what I call scrubbing. This is when one of the tires is toeing out, making it try to pull the truck to one side. The problem is the other three tires are saying no way, so it "scrubs" across the pavement. If that isn't it, then I don't know what it is.

I never heard of that, either. He can't really even tell you that your truck is out of alignment, as the tires could have come off a different vehicle.
If it hasn't had an alignment in the past year, it needs one now. Ford's twin I-beam is notorious for drifting out of alignment. I have a lifetime alignment at firestone. For $180, I get as many alignments as I want.
