I need advice. I just recieved a call from the dealer and they want me to either purchase a cylinder head for 3K or a new engine for 7K to fix a misfire on #5 error code. I had already replaced the coil and the check engine light went away for a little while but returned. They are telling me that the valve's are sticking...
Am I being took for a ride or is this common on these engine's (5.4)? Oh to make it worse my extended warranty just expired this month sometime they can't tell me when.
one thing you have going for you is that your warranty expired this month and your only 20 days in the month. I would try to get them to fix it under warranty, if they (service center) says no, go to their boss and so on up to the dealership owner. You can also call Ford customer service and ask them. Raise hell about the warranty just expiring and the problem is still present. Might also want to check the Lemmon Laws in your state and see if they apply to your case.
They're not called stealerships for nothing. Take it to an independent shop & get a second opinion.
If it were mine, & there really was a "sticking" valve, I would do a water de-carbon treatment through the brake booster vacuum line. Total cost - under $1.
