96 PSD manual transmission: I noticed awhile back my cruise control wasn't holding as it should. I would hold just where I put it and after 30 minutes or so it would suddenly let go.........well I just reset it and kept going. Yesterday it started letting go a minute or so after I set it........Now today it won't set at all......any ideas on how to fix the dang thing............going on a long trip pretty quick and don't want to pedal it all the way.
Things to check...
1) Brake Pressure Switch on master cylinder.
2) Brake On/Off Switch by pedal.
3) Contacts on steering column (remove bottom column cover & clean grooves w/ QTip).
4) VSS on rear end if speedo is wobbling or ABS light comes on.
The last thing that comes to mind is the PSOM, Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module, which costs about $600 at the stealership. A wobbly speedo is also an indicator of the PSOM failing.
