Graduation gift ideas needed!

What's a good high school graduation gift idea for an 18 year old guy that's heading off to college next fall. I'm looking for something in the $50-$60 range.

$50-$60 in cash. Unless he has rich parents, he wants/needs cash for his first year of financial heck.

$ 50 in a card I always liked the cash gifts ! but I realize you might want to give him something nice he can keep. However off to college he might like one of those hats that will hold 2 beers <<grin>> .

I'm just finishing my freshman year of college, so...

One thing I just bought a few weeks ago, and can't believe I didn't get sooner, is a comfortable desk chair. The ones supplied in the dorm just aren't very good. The one I got was on sale at Staples for around $65, I think.

If he has a vehicle and is interested in it, some sort of accessories toward that might be good, too.

(This is assuming you don't want to give him cash, or $60 worth of beer )

I agree with the Concert tickets. For my money it's always better to give someone an experience rather than an item.

Plus, as a student, they'll have very litttle cash for that type of luxury.

One of those USB memory sticks works well, too. Cash, a gas card, and/or a couple magazine subscriptions would do it.

I never really liked getting cash, the way I see it, birthdays, christmas, graduation etc. I like to try to give something that is strictly fun and unessesary, and that they couldn't justify spending the money on for themselves. Graduation I got a 1949 .300 Savage from a feller at my church. that's about the greatest graduation presant I can think of. Then my folks got me a case for it and my own cleaning kit etc. to go along with it. I deffinatly think something for his car is a good idea. Although the gun I plan on having forever and passing on to my son or something. If you can find something like that I think it would be better than something cool that doesn't last.
I'm glad you brought this up, my little brother is graduating highschool in May and so far all I've got is I'm going in with our sister for some cuff links. I'll let you know of any good ideas I come up with.

A good, loud alarm clock. That was probably the most used high school grad gift I got. They may not appreciate it right away but when it saves them from missing a final they'll def. appreciate it then.
