I was just driving my 69 f100 360 with my bright lights on. I was cruising at 50 and did not hit any bumps or anything. But all of a sudden my head lights shut completely off, all the guages were still lit up though. They probably stayed off about three seconds and then came back on. I had no other electrical components on and was not braking or using my turn signals. I did not hit the button for the light, nor the button on the floor for the brights. I do have a new alternator also. any ideas?
thanks for any help

Yup! I had a similar problem once many years ago. I was driving right behind this older couple in a '65 galaxie and every bump make my headlights flash on and off. I thought they'd think I was harassing them for driving too slowly, so I quickly changed lanes.
Replacing the dimmer switch took care of it completely. Actually, it was visibly scorched and the connector was a little melted due to high resistance from a bad connection due to the corrosion.
Sounds a lot like the classic Ford "Flashing headlights", which is caused by the headlight switch itself. There is a breaker or fuse integral to the switch on those which degrades with time. About 18 bucks from about any parts house....
The headlight switch has a breaker in it. As your headlight
wires age, their resistance increases, and eventually they trip
the circut breaker. Lights go out until the breaker cools.
If you're stuck somewhere w/ flickering headlights, open the
fresh-air vent (down by the ebrake). The (hopefully) cool outside
air will cool the breaker. I once made it from Erie, PA to Toledo on the Ohio turnpike (at night) using this method. Luckily it was
November.
While you are replacing your switch, you could also rewire your
headlights and add relays.

I did this about four years ago, and it was one of the four
best things I ever did to my truck. My headlights are so bright
I can melt bumper chorme at 15 feet.
I thimk i can venture a guess---he bought a porta crapper for those long camping trips in da country , he divoraced his 4th wife(cause she didn't like ford trucks) , and finally, he bought a burial plot large enough so they can bury him in his Foad truck!!!!!fd
