TIG/Plasma cutter scam
The guy I was buying it from was a power seller with 700+ positive history - I do think he is honest, but I may be screwed anyway. I received the following email from him tonight:
To all who purchased a welding or cutting unit from me,
It appears the people I was acting as a Trading Assistant for are not honest. I'm sorry. Some of the early buyers actually got their unit. They were then using those people who left feedback as bait so I'd write them a check. I've retained most of the payment funds. Serveral of you may have received a UPS tracking # for an item that didn't arrive, and for all practical purposes, may not ever ship. I'm sorry. My task was to take the order, they were to fulfull the order.
I've received many e-mails and phone calls. I will do my best to refund everyone who purchased one of these units and who didn't receive one. It appears some did ship. If you received yours, please let me know. I will keep double checking the UPS tracking records to see that you did. For those whose unit hasn't already been marked as shipped by the seller, I'll be sending out refunds to you promptly. If you receive one and are not satisfied with the unit, I will also accept those back too.
I will be contacting eBay's and Paypal's Trust and Safety departments and the local police authorities tomorrow.
Again, I am sorry. I understand you trusted me enough to send a significant quantity of money. I will retain your trust by helping you not get taken by someone who used my creditibility to deceive others. I would not be sending out such an e-mail if I was part of the scam. I've also been scammed and may be impacted financially.
NOTE: Another person is selling these same items. Now the company name has changed. BEWARE!!
Kind Regards,
My father always tought me that if it was too good to be true, it likely isn't. I guess I need to be reminded of that from time to time. I broke one of my rules in that I allowed eBay to do an instant check for payment instead of the normal visa - so my credit union can do nothing to help.
It is up to eBay and this seller to make my loss good - and eBay is not the best at doing that!
What a bummer, I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully the guy does what he says and you get your money back. It would sure be nice if they cought the actual behind the scenes scammer.
Good luck
Bobby
Sorry to hear about your bad experiance with that seller. Hope you can get it resolved. I had a nightmare a couple of years ago with a seller on Ebay. I won a bid on a used motohome and sent the guy a $1000 deposit. Drove over 1000 miles to Texas From South Carolina to pick it up and when i got there, i found that everything he claimed in his add was all lies. Pictures were taken 10 years before. I almost ended up in jail and the seller kept my deposit. I went through hell for months with Ebay & Texas law enforcement before i finnaly gave it up as another lesson in life. It scare me so bad that i havn't delt on Ebay since. All my other transactions were great up till then. I enen bought several vehicles fro differant parts of the country without a hitch.
I wish you well in getting it straightened out. Keep us updated on how it turns out.
Glad you posted your problems. I was considering looking into one of those deals. Thanks.
Now would be a good time to look into your local welding supply companies like Miller, Hobart and Lincoln. Besided repair, support and quality you can't beat with a major brand in the long run.
.....=o&o>......
I guess the company was slow to ship, and the guy doing the listing panicked. I am still learning to use my new toy, but so far it seems to be just what I wanted.
