Rims from the Factory were Either Black or White, you could Also Special Order them the Same Colour as the Truck.
If you are Planning on Chrome or Black Accents, such as Pumpers, Grille, Mirrors, etc., use Black on the rims.
But if you Plan on Going w/ White Accents on the afore mentioned, paint the rims White.
This way once you've dicided How you are going to do your Accents, you do not have to repaint the rims, unless of course you wish for them to match your trucks colour.

Colonel, I beg to differ about the wheel color. F-100 truck wheels were painted Snowshoe white (it may have been Colonial White, I don't want to run upstairs to check my books right now.) F-250 and up were black. I suppose you could get any color on a special order.

Fathers '60 F-100 came w/ BLACK Rims when he purchased it straight off the lot & they Were Not S.O.'d.
Colonial White is the Correct Colour designation.
I'm dark sided.. not worried about matching original.... but I suppose that if I were TRULLY dark sided I would buy all new wheels altogether
This is the original ? you asked.
"My question is, if I was to paint it, what color would be smart.. Its orange now, but in the future it will probably be silver and/or blue.. I'm trying to think of a color that would go with both... but I can't. Should I just paint them the primer grey and leave it? What do you guys think?"
So based on that is how we came up w/ our Answers.
I also Stated that you could match the Rims to your Accents (Chrome, Black, White or any Colour you choose), such as the Bumpers, Grille, Mirrors. etc.
Colonel, Sorry, I was referring to '55 and '56 trucks which Jeff's truck is a '55. I do not know much about the '57 and up of course...
sorry for the confusion,
abe
No worries, mate.
Father states that they pretty much Slapped whatever Rims (b or w) they had on the trucks that they had on hand @ the time no matter the year model. Especially if they happen to have run out of what was supposed to be put on them normally.
Same thing happened w/ Engines, subbing 292's for 272's, 312's for 292's, etc., when they ran out of what was normally supposed to go in the vehical.

I can't say what color would look good on the wheels, but a rattle can paint job, center caps, and cheap chrome rings make one look better with very little expense (IMHO).
No...I didn't paint them and yes there are runs all over. You can't tell it from 2' away though.
I went with white wagon wheels on mine. Looked good at the time, but that was 30 years ago. Got H-60 15s on front and L60 15s on rear, Mickey Thompsons. Son wants something chrome and low and wide. Wagon wheels were cheap then, Chrome isn't now. Have to keep playing the lottery I guess.
Black gets my vote. A nice glossy black, and if you had the time to spend, get a model paint brush and make a thin orange accent line around the outer diameter - much like the wheels you see with the red line.
