72 door on a 67
5 hours later I desided that a new I beam and rear axil were just the ticket to fix the problem but I needed to do some research. So I came home with a pristine driver side door off a 72' f250. I checked and double checked everything to make sure it would fit and it does execpt for one thing. The opener handle was missing off the inside so I didn't realize it was a pull flap handle instead of the rotary handle on my old door. I by no means want a pull flap handle so I took both doors apart. There is an indent for the pull flap where my rotary handle would mount.
So do I...
1) Take the door back and see if they will swap for a less pristine door (I paid $40)?
2) Use a body saw to cut and flatten the indent so I can mount my handle?
3) Cut out the chunk of metal around the indent and replace it with the same chunk of metal from my old door? I was thinking of mounting the new metal with JB and rivits or bolts because my welding skills with my buzz box leave a bit to be desired on sheet metal.
I am very open to any suggestions! Thanks!
By the way, I think I am going to replace my 1/2 ton running gear with 3/4 ton from the spring on down including the power steering box, steering column, brake booster, I beam, axil and springs. If I harvest the parts from a 67 - 72 f250 I shouldn't have a problem with the rail width and the parts (including the springs) should bolt right on? Am I correct in the assumption? Yes, I started looking in the paper for donors.
I am tempted to just go with 1 ton gear but I think that would be a bit much for my stock I-300? Would 1 ton gear be a direct replacement? Did the f350's have a heavier/different frame?
