Okay! Sliiiightly misguiding title, I will admit, BUT this qualifies for the V10 board because I sold our '97 Ford Contour on Saturday to make room for the soon-to-arrive '06 F-350 Lariat SRW V10 4.30LS.
Yep, I am getting antsy and we got offered a real good price on our darn near perfect Contour, so I let it go. I also got early approval for the F-350 loan today at a shhhhhmokin' deal, so when I walk into the Ford dealership in less than two weeks I will have the ace in my back pocket. For once in my life I won't be the little lamb walking into the lion's den!
az, that is a great feeling going into a dealership knowing you have the upper hand. good luck with fords rare velvet hammer jewel, THE BIG 10 SUPERDUTY!. matt
you know what the sad thing is though az,? if you look at the biased crooks at consumer reports, in the last 20 yrs of fords car making, the most trouble free model that they have made as far as defects, recalls, etc, is the ford contour/mercury mystique. how did u like yours? good luck with the new truck though. matt

I loved our 'Tour', it was fast, comfy and handled well. If it hadn't been stolen one of the kids would be driving it now. I'd still like to have an SVT Contour. Unfortunately for Ford, what works in Europe doesn't always work here. The Contour is still going strong across the ocean, as it has been for more than a decade.
i didnt want to change the subject too much, but have you ever saw an svt contour in action on the strip? there is a VERY audible difference when the secondary runners open at about 4500 rpm. what a pull from there to 7500! i am a V10 guy, but that howling sound was intoxicating!
Our Contour was a '97, and when we sold it it was showing 100,597 on the odometer. It had been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Never once saw the dealer, and was immaculate inside and out. No wrecks, no door dings, no scratches. Only myself and my wife ever drove it, and seeing as we are in our 40s and drive extremely conservatively, it was a great machine. I changed the oil every 5k, did scheduled maintenance as recommended by the book, but never did the brakes. They still have over 1/3 of the pads left, front and rear.
I tracked the mileage from day one (Ownersite.com) and it averaged 28.79 mpg over its life with us. I only sold it because we have averaged less than 5k per year for the past two years, and we don't need three vehicles. A good friend of ours mentioned to us that he knew someone who was in dire straits (love that band!) and desperately needed a reliable vehicle. I said, how about three grand, and within 24 hours it was gone.

P.S. Yeah, I drove '99 or '00 Contour SVT. WHATTA BLAST!!!!!! When I took it back to the dealership, the tires were so warm that pebbles were sticking to them...
We have a '98 Contour SE V6 w/5spd. It has 163K miles on it now, and I have had to do very little to it considering that many miles. It still runs great, and yes, when the secondary runners open up it really gets fun. We keep driving it because it also averaged 27 - 28 mpg.
