void warranty

I see alot of people modify their trucks, lifts, exaust, intake and such.My warranty book says do not modify this truck or you void the warranty. It mentions intake, emissions, exaust and such.My question is do people just not care or is there a way around warranty issues.Seems ford would use any excuse to not work on a truck with mods.

People don't care and/or just take the chance that nothing will happen. Any mods to a particular area of your truck will potentially (most likely) void the warranty of that area. So, if you add a lift kit, then they probably won't cover when you have problems with your suspension, etc. The entire warranty is NOT voided ... the the portions you modify.

You are also protected under the Magnuson-Moss warranty act. Whci basically states thatif a dealer can PROVE that the item the broke is due in part to your modification, then your S.O.L Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) .

My thoughts on this are it is basically up to the dealer whether or not you get "ratted out" to Ford. If your dealer ever wants to sell you another truck, and believe me, he does, he will not say one word even if your mod DID cause the problem.

Also, exhaust?? How can a muffler even be considered a mod? Those are a "disposable" part that needs to be replaced from time to time anyways.

I've got a new Flomaster on my brand new truck and I can't imagine it causing any problems or it even so much as being mentioned. Is that considered a "mod"? I never even so much as considered it.

I had a flowmaster installed on my 06, the dealer started giving me crap about it, saying it was the cause of the sulfur smell. I told them it was impossible. They argued a bit, i brought up the info about that act (the name is escaping me, scroll up ), and they said they'd look at it.

Still havent' fixed it yet. They apparently have no idea what would cause a sulfur smell..

Any exhaust components AFTER the catalytic convertor can be swapped without warranty fears. All modifications carry a risk of a dealer not cooperating.

A sulfer smell is caused by a malfunctioning catalytic covertor, or bad gas, or looking at the truck the wrong way (or so it seems sometimes ). Its possible that with the stock muffler in place, the flow is rated as such, for the stock catalytic covertor to work more efficiently (gas spends more time in the honeycomb matrix, and is catalized more).

Well it did the same thing with the stock muffler. They said it was b/c i was using 10% ethenol and these trucks aren't made for that. So i went back to 87 regular. That was 3 months ago. Still the same problem. They say they're positive its not the cats....
