Pulled the tranny out on Saturday, only took an hour and a half this time. I guess by the third time in one year you should be able to do it quick!! This will be the last time though, I'm having it rebuilt and I'm hoping to put it back in the first weekend in may. No more junkyard transmissions for me.
My local tranny shop would not guarentee their work unless they pulled the tranny. They said when they do it, they have a special cleaner they use to flush the radiator lines and cooler out with. It get's full of crap, and ruins the new tranny. So this is something you may want to think about, especially since you have had so many different ones in there.
Where are you getting it rebuilt? PM stuart1 and get his advice, he`s on our chapter forum and is a retired transmission rebuilder from southern Sask.
Seven years ago I had Trevor`s Transmission Shop in Saskatoon rebuild my C6 from the 67 Mustang, I did my own r & r with a decent deal. That was before meeting staurt1 on line..
My wife's uncle has been a mechanic at the local Ford dealer for about 30 years, so he's doing the rebuild for me in his garage.
As for the cooler lines I just blew air through them with the compressor. Is there some sort of cleaning fluid I should pump through them?
Uncle Bill got the tranny tore down and as expected the seal on the drive clutch was shot, but he also said the clutches didn't look great. So I've ordered a tranny rebuild kit off eBay. It came out to $145 Canadian and it should be here next week. Hopefully the truck will be on the road by June. Then I'll have to decide if I want to keep it or sell it.
