I am putting a 204/214 cam in my 1987 5.0L. Earlier I posted and someone told me that the cam would not work because it had a 112 lobe seperation and the SD would make the truck run bad, and the only way to run it would be to switch to mass air.
But on the edlebrock website it gives you a choice of two cams, the one I plan to run, and another which is a 220/220 w/ a 110 lobe seperation. But they tell you on the 220/220 that it can only be run on a mass air motor, but it doesn't say anything about mass air for the 204/214.
you can only run cams with a lobe seperation of no less then 114* for speed density. go thru compcams or call edelbrocks tech support and see what they offer. the website may not be showing you everything they have available. be sure to specify its for a speed density equiped motor.
A 112 degree cam will work w/speed density. Im running Crane 444211. It the largest cam you can run with stock SD computer. Specs: 208/216 duration; .530 lift; 112 degree lobe seperation.
The idle can be a little lopey at times, but when you bump timing to 12deg BTDC, things smooth out a little.
