I've got EGR issues with my '89 5.8 Bronco. I pulled codes 34 & 84 and already replaced the EVP. I also checked the EGR diaphragm with a vacum guage and it holds so I believe it works also. I started the truck & checked for vacum at the EGR and didn't have any from the EGR Vacum Regulator Solenoid (I think it's also called the EVR) but the engine was cold. Does anyone know if the solenoid is temperature sensitive? Should I check for vacum when the engine comes up to temp or is it most likely the solenoid just not working?
34 isnt that evp solenoid voltage low? i dont believe the egr is temp sensitive.. but dont take my word for it someone else please feel free to correct me uh... try unbolting the egr valve from the mantifold (only 2 13mm bolts holding it on) and looking on the inside for carbon buildup if theres alot try cleaning it out with a brush and then carefully vacuuming out all of the dust then check the codes again my 5.0 had one of those codes and it disappeared as soon as i did that
Lightdragon is right, the EVR is NOT temp sensitive. It must have 12VDC to the RED wire with the key "ON". The resistance across the terminals of the EVR with the harness disconnected should be between 30 and 70 ohms. If this is NOT the case, replacement is necessary. The code 34 should go away as soon as the problem causing code 84 is resolved since the EVR is "upstream" of the EGR components you have already dealt with in the system.
