Can any one tell me why iam not getting air out of my EGR Valve vacume line.I pulled the vacume line on the EGR valve while the motor was running, and no air.The EGR vacume line runs from the EGR to the purge celinoide(PVS) ,and there is a red vacume line that is sucking air.Thats also hooked up to the purge celinoide.Any way to byepass this with out buying a new PVS.Its a ford part only.I keep getting open/close problem code with the EGR valve when i run the scanner test. After the motor gets warm and shifting into 3rd it will ping then the engine light comes on.If i give half throttle while driving it drives real nice.Any more then half it starts to ping.I thought it was the EGR valve and took back a new one for another new one.
The EGR Valve is not operated by the purge solenoid.
The Purge solenoid allows the engine vacuum to pull the Gas Tank fumes out of the canister at off idle with the engine warm. The EEC controls the Purge solenoid. This however is not used on the 1988, the 1988 used check valves I think.
The EGR Valve is operated by the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) and is also controlled by the EEC and it opens the EVR at off Idle with a warm engine but closes it at WOT.
You do not get air out of a vacuum line, it sucks (for lack of a better term).
It sounds like your vacuum lines may be miss-routed. There should be a diagram of the Vacuum system under the hood.
Here is a diagram that should be close, but use the one under the hood.
Thats the same diagram under my hood. Thanks i printed that one you posted.Yesterday i replaced the the PVS/EVR,and now my van really runs nice.Iam shure i will have to replace the other two down the line. The engine light came on again, but there was very little ping this time.I ran a code scanner and got O2/sensor electrical code problem.Any tricks getting the O2 sensor off.Its stuck on there good. Thanks for the help.EGR is opening and closeing now.
PB Blaster off and on for two days without running the engine or heat but if you use heat be very careful of fire and have a fire bottle there.
I have heard that you can take the old one out and put the flame on the sensor and burn off the stuff and put it back in and it is good as new until does it again, then burn it again.
I have a new problem.I will be driving at 6:00am in the morning with a very small mist in the air,and when i go to stop at a light or stop sign my motor will ping and the engine light comes on then stalls\then it cranks right back up.It dose it about 3-4 times then runs ok the rest of the day. This has done it to me twice now. Each time there was morning dew on the van.Is there somthing getting wet?I still have not replaced the O2 sensor.
they sell a socket that fits over the o2 sensor, and its wire, at auto parts stores.
as far as the morning dew. how long since u put on a new cap rotor and wires, the sp wires are prone to damage in the hot tiny compartment.
if its been awhile its always a good place to start. i'd take alook at the o2 sensor, check for any spark or "misfire" in a dark place. check your cap for cracks. listen for any vacuum lines hissing.
