New dizzy install

Well, I'm getting a new dizzy tomorrow for the Cleveland, but I neglected to mark where the old one was set in. So, can someone correct me if I'm wrong.

1. Put piston #1 in TDC position.(Piston #1 is passenger side front?)
2. When sliding the dizzy in, make sure that the rotor is pointed towards cyl #1

I think thats how I remember doing it a long time ago, but I'm not 100%.

thanks

I believe you mean make sure the rotor is pointed towards cylinder #1 marked on your distributor cap.

Thanks 53fatfndr. Thats the clarification I needed. it still stalls out hard on startup. I tried to turn the dizzy one way or another to try and get it to turn over. not having much luck making it turn over. Gonna recharge the battery tonite, and give it a try tomorrow. I ended up replacing the whole ignition system with MSD, so I got no excuses now.

That hard cranking was why the original DS-II had a start retard function. I "think" you can get MSD units that will do that also, may be wrong tho, would not be the first time.

You can static time the engine by setting the crank in the proper position on the timing pointer and then turning the dizzy until you get a spark. It will get the timing close enuf to start.

thanks torque1st. I had the hard cranking problem before I upgraded. I was hoping when I put in the new dist that I would have been a tooth out, but it appears that I am not. I went with the MSD setup for show and go. I got the battery on the charger now, and over nite. I will try tomorrow. It is a b/n battery that has been sitting on my shelf since fall, and has had a charge in it before, as I started the motor last fall. I have yet to get the distributor recurved, I am just trying to get this motor running, as it has been sitting on blocks for about 7 years. It is a very hot motor, rebuilt from crank up, etc, etc. I'm realizing I have some new bugs to work out, and it seems to be getting the better of me right now....argg...lol.
