I am about to start a ground up restoration on a 65 4x4 short box. I have two short box 4x4 frames but only one 4x4 body. I will eventually build both trucks so the question is, is there much conversion necessary to put a 4x2 body on a 4x4 frame? I would like to start with this truck to use as a daily driver and then begin the 4x4 oringinal as a show truck.
Thanks, Frank.
You're Right the 4x4s in 65 & 66 use the same cab & front body clip as the 61-64 4X2 did. I don't think the bed matters, but I know the cab sure does.

The shortbed 4x4 was not available until 1966. The 61-65 and 66 F250 4x4s are often thought to be shortbeds, probably due to the 120 inch wheelbase. They have the 8 foot 57-60 bed.
Thanks for the info,Tom. I didn't have a vin plate with one of the 4x4 frames. All I knew is that the wheelbase was 120 inches although the 66 4x4 frame had a 5 bolt pattern whereas the other had a heavier suspension and a 8 bolt pattern. I guess i shouldn't assume.
The 5 bolt is an F100 and the 8 bolt is an F250. Look for the vin stamped on top of the frame above the right front axle and maybe a second location on top of a crossmember that would be underneath the cab if it were in place. The F100 4x4 frame should be stamped F11******** and the F250 4x4 frame should be stamped F26********. The 4x2 body will work (61 to 64), but you will have to modify the wheel well openings on the bed due to the shorter wheelbase. You may also have to drill new holes in the frame to mount the bed to the frame. If you are using the old 57-60 bed, you won't have to modify the wheelwells.
