the best swap is to use the fan from a 80's fiero. it pulls a ton of air and is a common setup for 4x4 guys. it will draw 30 amps so you will need a bigger alternator.
I just looked at another thread and it showed the lincolin mark 8 fans.....Its a v8 fan setup that moves like 4300cfm and theres two on ebay for 65 bucks! I think it would be the best bet. its 19x22 I think its very close to our size...
Link Mark whatever, Crown Vics, Town Cars, Taurus etc all have approximately the same size radiator. I originally installed one in my crewcab from an older caddy, and eventually sold it and put the old mechanical fan back on until I found something with a newer, more efficient motor. I'm going with a town car fan once I find one in the junkyard that's intact. The last two were smashed, due to the cars being front-hits.
If it doesn't quite fit right, you can use thin sheet metal to make "brackets" and just put a gasket around the fan (or the radiator) so that air doesn't seep between the two units.
I made a variable speed PWM controller that uses the stock ford water temp sending unit. The higher the temp, the faster the fan(s) will spin.

I just want to look for something that will have the best fit. I don't have any machining tools at age 19 and nowhere to keep them. Basically, I have wrenches and tin snips, so any metal working is going to be bronze age quality at best. Just wanted to know how big the current fan was, that's all. The rest will be left to my afro-engineering ways.
i was just gonna ask . . . "you think there's some way to have it run on its own battery without draining it in one day and have it still be controlled by the ecu/m?"
can you elaborate frederic?
obviously this would resolve the bad clutch fan motor issue?
what remains in place of the fan. just the rod or whatever that held the fan?
I got mine off 94 camaro with a v6. It came with a duel set up, but I only used one which was plenty and keeps the coolant very close to 190F. If you leave the fan shroud on, it helps a lot with directing the air. I have pictures in my gallery, it is a fairly close fit. Both fans were only $20 at the junkyard.

How is a more efficeint motor going to be better?
Did you see a difference in gas mileage when the electric fan was installed?

More details please. Is this something a nimrod like me could assemble? Will it be reliable long term in the harsh underhood enviroment? Estimated total costs? Were you able to also use the stock dash temperature gauge?
