Engine transplant

I am in the process of installing an engine and transmission from a 91 F150, 302ci with a AOD transmission into a 68 M100 Mercury. I am planning to keeping the fuel injection and computer, but remove the air pump and EGR valve.
Can this be done without causing problems with the computer and the operation of the engine. I have heard conflicting responses.

If you remove the air pump, essentially nothing will happen. Removing the EGR will trigger codes in the computer, causing the engine light to illuminate.

There are EGR bypass kits, which is a metal plate the block the holes, and a plug that the harness goes to with a resistor. However, if you want to remove all the emissions stuff, that's more complicated. The EGR isn't the only thing tested by the EEC.

Personally, I'd skip the air pump and leave the EGR and the rest of the 91 emissions stuff, unless you want to hack into the EEC and play with the settings. Leaving the EGR is probably less work.
