I have a Duraspark II distributor recurved with 10L weight on the centrifugal advance and a Crane Cams adjustable vacuum advance pot for a backup if needed, but my newly installed Crane Cams digital distributor is working just fine with 9 centrifugal and 3 vacuum advance settings tweeked from the OUTSIDE of the distributor with a tiny screw driver. How sweet it is!

That is sweet, saves a lot of hassle finding someone with a distributor machine.

Doesn't the stock DSII has the same adjustment screw?
There is an Allen head adjustable spring tensioner in some of the DSII vacuum advance pots, but not all of them. You have to check each one to find out for certain...
ok, I called Napa and no listing for a "Ford DSII Dizzy" He said that if I get a part #, he could cross-ref it. So should I call Ford or does someone have a part #?
You will need to find someone with a distributor machine to adjust it to:
=======================
Centrifugal Advance Start: 0-0.5° @ 350RPM Finish: 14° @ 2275RPM
Vacuum Advance Start: 0-1° @ 5" Finish: 12.5° @ 25"
Initial Timing: 10° BTDC, 6°BTDC California.
Vacuum given in inches of Mercury (Hg).
RPM specified as distributor RPM.
Degrees specified as distributor degrees.
---------------------------------
Double those values for crankshaft figures:
Example: 0-0.5° @ 350RPM distributor becomes 0-1° @ 700RPM on the engine.
========================
The above specs will be close for a non-EGR application.

There is a single vacuum and "dual vacuum" distributor available for the '78 Ford 400. Both are remanufactured by A-1 Cardone and cost about $53. They are found under Ignition at www.RockAuto.com Here is photo of the distributor: http://www.rockauto.com/ref/Cardone/...tml?302893.jpg
Procomp distributors look pretty good and they are very cheap but I don't know about it's reliability.
I own one but i'm not using it untill my engine is built.
