Okay, just drove it 680 miles from Rolla Missouri to Knoxville Tennessee. 69 Ranger shortbed, power steering, 360 rebuilt to 390 and Hurst tranny. I don't know much else about it. Cost me $1200 and it cruised at 75 mph all the way here. Hit 90 mph when I wasn't paying attention. Burns no oil. Anyway, help me out with these numbers.

I realize that lots of things change in 33 years and I just want to find out where I stand on my starting point here. I've already taken a boatload of "before" pics and want to document everyhing my 15 year old son and I do to it. One previous restoration (72 Chevelle...don't shoot me It was 16 years ago). Finally have a garage and time to do another. Have read all the threads that you all have posted and they really helped me in my search for an old Ford truck. Any help will be appreciated.
Congratulations on your new truck. Sounds like you got a good deal. I suggest you stick with us here and enjoy the Ford truck hobby. I have the same heads you do and I am told they are good for trucks. As for the rest, have patience someone will come along and decode those numbers. Check out the engine forum for FE motors for tons of additional information. Welcome! Post back.

You guys are great. I appreciate all the info. My first task is getting the turn signals to cancel on their own. When I hit a good bump they even turn themselves on. I'll have a bunch of questions for everyone and I'm glad to find you all.
Jim, my signals don't turn off either, but considering I've only driven my truck 1,000 miles in the last 3 years, it isn't too big of a deal. One of these days I'll replace the cam in the column. Good luck with your project.
The DSO is 'District Special Order'. This is the sales region the truck was ordered to. Someone here should be able to decode that for you. The D3TE indicates a manifold from a 73 truck engine. Sounds like a great project to get into with your son.
Thanks everybody. I am ordering the turn signal cam today. Okay, next question, If the door plate says the original horsepower was 175, what can I expect it to roughly be if it is now a 390, with only the minor mods it has now, dual exhaust and air cleaner?
Jim, was checking out your other numbers. The truck decodes to a Candy Apple Red shortbox with a 360, three speed and a 3.25 rearend, built sometime in April 69 and ordered by the Memphis sales district.
Hey that's cool. Memphis makes sense since the emblem on the fender says "Rybur Ford Arkansas". I guessed the rear end was 3.25, you confirmed it. I thought it was Rangoon Red, but I'm not sure where I got that info. Candy Apple Red sounds better. It has been rebuilt as a 390, that dowel trick I read on here helped settle that question for me.
Used the truck to haul some sheetrock for a wall I'm building in my den today. Some guy at Lowe's wanted to know if I'd sell it. Told him no, but there were plenty on this site and others that he could buy.
If I can get that wall finished maybe I'll have some time to dedicate to my truck, at least until she gives me some other task that can't wait.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Sep-02 AT 07:57 PM (EST)]I have a '68 F-100 with a 390. Can't beat 'em for torque. And if you're married, the projects NEVER end. Trust me. Welcome to the club. Most of us are a little crazy around here, but you'll get used to us!
