If it's a high mileage transmission it sounds like hard seals that will soften up with heat, then start sealing better. filter may be plugged up but Ford's use a coarse screen. In the morning the fluid is thick and doesn't flow as well thru the partially plugged filter as when the oils hot and thinner. Over night you will have some converter drainback but that will fill up under 30 seconds. Chryslers with 727's did that where you start then put in drive right away and hold 1,400 rpm's then after 45 seconds you start to slowly move forward if it's been sitting for weeks. A quick patch if it's high mileage is add a can of seal swell additive to squeeze a few more miles and time out of it. A friends 74 Ford PU has been on seal swell products the last 40K miles, cheap fix on a 240K mile transmission.
The large square ring around the pump body to case is a known leak area, also the converter to pump seal may be leaking. Seal swell may stop your leaks if they aren't too big. Cheaper than a tear down.

Not really as there are several on the market all have the same results. It takes a few hundred miles and time to see results unless the leak is excessive. I have seen my custom tranny friend many times tell people with old junk high mileage vehicles to use a swell additive vs a rebuild he'll ask how long they're planning on keeping the vehicle as a custom build would be worth more than their vehicle. A honest person all around who builds to your motors needs and driving habits not a AAMCO production shop. Speed shops wanted him to repair B & M tranny crap but he doesn't need the work or likes working on garbage. He made a transmission and was testing, that idea was stolen which then became LINCO.
Fun to see some "Joe hot rod" come to the shop with a trick go fast article, he'll pull notes or parts off the shelf where he did that years ago. "Junior" was owner builder of his own Top Fuel digger years ago like his 67 Dodge 440 4 barrel progrssive linkage propane induction PU. I met him at NASA Ames in the 70's, we think outside the box. A custom C-6 he built for me with oil pressure to the sprag. Sorry i'm rambling about a great friend. The swell product will help internal seals work again as old tranny's have alot of internal bleeding, reduced applied clutch pressures hence slip, heat smoke and failures with big power applied. Extra trans cooler with a remote spin on filter with magnets will help a tranny live longer. C-6 screens do not filter small particales. They were never designed to drag race with a super motor on giggle gas in a heavy truck then go 100K miles without failures.
Done B S N 4 NOW!......=o&o>......
