today my brakes failed on my 93 Ranger checked fluid there was none so i put in more went down within a minite and again brakes were failing driveing back i was able to press the brake pedel in while driveing in 4th gear and the ABS ligth has come on I am guessing new brakes pads and routers all four wheels?
Sounds like you have a fluid leak somewhere in the system.
So you need to find & fix that first, before throwing parts at the problem.
Look at each wheel/tire on the inside/backside & see if you have any brake fluid wet spots around the wheel or on the tires. If so pull the wheel & see whats up!!!! Maybe a leaky wheel cylinder, caliper, line connection or hose. So check the rubber hoses on the front wheels too.
If you don't see any leaks at the wheels, look inside, under the dash where the brake pedal goes through the firewall & see if it looks wet there, or if the carpet or floor mat looks wet. If so, suspect the brake master cylinder.
If that looks ok, pull the brake boster vacuum line & see if it's wet inside. If so, suspect the brake master cylinder, or booster diaphragm.
If none of these turn up a leak, check ALL the brake lines, from the master cylinder all the way to each wheel, be sure to include the ABS motor.
Somewhere along the line, you should find your leak.
well I think its the master cylinder i think its where you put in the fluid there is a broken line and a leak in this big cylinder where the fluid goes in it leaks wheer it is bolted to this cyylinder thing how much does this cost to fix can i do it myself or should i pay the mechanic?
