Ground-up Restro

Hello, i just thought I would get your input/ideas about this. Once I am done this year of University, in two weeks, I will be tearing down my 66 M100 4x2 to the frame to sandblast and paint, add sway bars, front disc brakes, and possibily a new rear end.
Now, who here has done this, and how long does it take? I just need a rough estimate, as I need a new cab, and will probably go down to the States to find one, but that will not be until next June most likely.

Are there any specifics to look out for while doing this, I have lots of time, and I am thinking the only problem may be getting ahold of a sandblaster. I will also be changing my gas tank to between the rear frame rails.

Thanks guys (and gals)

Twin66,

I would conservatively estimate it would take me between 32 & 40 Manhours of actual labor on task to complete the frame portion of your proposed project. That estimate includes prep & painting, BTW, which I presume you intend to do, but did not mention.

I'm okay with sand blasting frames and running gear parts, but dead set against sand blasting or chemically stripping sheetmetal body parts. I have become convinced only reasonable method for body parts is media blasting, if indeed stripping finish is actually necessary.

sorry FBp, i thought I mentioned prep and painting, and yes, I know not to sand blast the sheetmetal. BTW, what exactly is this media blasting you are talking about?

Something else I forgot to mention, I was looking at the 3" drop I-beams at summit, has anyone here used these before? Part #DJM-DB3004B-3. Or should I find and use drop spindles. I have never lowered anything before, and I just want a little drop (about 3") and the same in the back. What are some options for dropping the back, besides putting the spings below the axle.

Thanks
