I will be joining the diesel crowd after owning (3) 5.4's and (1) 4.6. Truck is 06 F-250 Crew 8'bed 2wd, auto/diesel, 3.73l/s, camper pkg, tow cmd, 12.5k hitch, sliding wdow/priv glass, rev aid, dual alternators, 6cd, security grp, chrome running boards, upfitters.

I test drove same truck with v10 and this truck. Both had plenty of low grunt, didn't notice a lot of power difference, but v10 definately was more responsive on throttle. Going diesel because I won't sweat putting miles on it, and will be getting heavy truck camper and possibly pulling a 30' loaded travel trailer at same time, and hope to get a couple more mpg around town with diesel. Thank you for the replies and advice.

Trading in the 2004 f150 Heritage 4.6/3.08 open diff. supercab shortbed, a great truck for going to Home Depot, but useless for towing/hauling.

Thumbs up

Good luck with your discision. Having purchase a new 6.8 2V C/C 4x4 in 2001 and recently trading it with 125K for an '06 3V (same) I can honestly say I am once again pleased with my discision. The mileage aspect and cost of ownership is not an issue when stacking up the 6.8 against a 6.0 PSD. Sure the PSD is a fine motor with some what of a checkered past and it gets the job done for most of it's owners. But, If you spent any time in the V-10 forum you may have noticed the loyalty, the raw power, the exception capabilities and the trouble free qualities of this BSEG engine.

Between packing 3k of snowmobiles and gear in the bed in the winter and pulling a 8K T/T in the summer I have gained greater respect for this engine since the first day I purchased it. And like all the V-10 owners (10+) that I've run across in 5 years have never regreted our disicion in going for this Blue Oval gasser. Thie 6.8 is with out a doubt the best engine I have had to get the job done in 30+ years of driving.

Whats there not to like about 12+ mpg mixed driving and 14-15 empty on the hwy. Not to mention 11-12 hauling and 9-10 towing. Especially since I currently live in a state where diesel is $.40 to $.50 higher per gallon than the 87 octane flavor.

For those with an open mind and shopping the market I mention these proven V10 facts since you will most likely never here them from a dealer.

BSEG!

Plus I'd never own a 2wd pickup. I use the 4wd too much in the winter and for working offroad on my land and on hunting trips. A 2wd would be useless for my needs. Plus a 4wd sits alot higher off the ground and just looks better in my opinion!

Also the V10 is a 350, right? So you're going to gain a little bit or weight capacity on the GVWR over the 250 which is a nice factor as well.

I have an '01 F350 DRW 4X with a V10. I use it to haul a 3-horse living quarters trailer. All the diesel guys I spoke to said that diesel is worth the extra money if you put alot of miles on yearly. They meant 50k to 80k. If the price is the same, the year is the same and the model is the same, go with diesel if you want. However, when I bought mine used, the same year, same model diesels were priced 6k to 7k more. Plus the diesel of that same year had at least twice as many miles on it. Good luck.

Get the V10.

The less demand for diesel fuel, the better for those of us who own one already.

Buy more gas!!! Diesels are bad!!!

Just kidding. I’d be willing to bet that if you buy the diesel, you’ll never want to own another gasser. So, buy at your own risk.

Sounds like the decision's made, but I'd buy the 4x4 even in sunny So Cal because boat ramps can get damn slick and the four wheel drive can be useful for that alone.
