Hello everyone,
I have a couple questions about my electrical system on my 1951 F-3 pickup.
I sent for new water pumps from Napa and while i'm waiting on them, i decided to start cleaning up parts and connections. I decided to convert to 12 Volts. I have a 12 Volt alternator and most of the other parts to complete the conversion from a 1978 F-150 that i used to have. The 60 Amp alternator has the narrow pully on it. Looked for a 5/8 pully at all the local parts stores today without any luck. I saw a 5/8 pully on the Speedway Motors site but its for a GM alternator. Anyone know if that would fit my Ford Alternator? Any other recommondations?
While cleaning up the connections on the dash panel, i broke one of the studs off on one of the cicuit breakers. Cant find the size anywhere on it. Looking for a wiring diagram and a source to buy the circuit breakers. Probably going to be asking a lot of questions before i get the truck on the road. Still havn't figured out how to post pictures yet but i"m working on that to.
Thanks again.
Ken
As I recall the circuit breakers are around 30 amps. Personal opinion, if you're going to 12v, I wouldn't count on them. They're old! I bought some nice, compact circuit breakers at an RV store for $5 apiece. I only use them for lights, I installed a modern blade-type fuse box (4 circuits) for everything else. I am considering a fusible link to feed the breakers and fusebox. Those alternators can put out a lot of juice in a hurry!
Check with Certified Electric, or other vendors that sell 12v alternators for flatheads, about the pulley. I can't imagine they are available from local vendors.
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking about using a fusable link anyway and adding a fuse panel. I'd like to replace the broken circuit breaker also. Just curious about the original size. Glad to hear that a GM pully is the same as a Ford. Gives me more options. I figured out how to make the avatar too. Spending more time browsing FTE than playing with my truck.
Thanks From Enoree SC.
