ARP studs/Hypermax gaskets

Hey People,
My truck is at the dealer for the headgasket/stud job, EGR cooler, and possibly a turbo. I feel really comfortable with my friend the diesel tech pulling the cab off.... if he wasn't my longtime friend/dragracing buddy I would be paranoid. Also, all the FoMoCo and IH training he has under his belt (starting with the 6.9's) makes me feel better too. I am using the Hypermax '500' gaskets (c-rings w/o machine work) and ARP studs. After I get it back together I am going to Dyno thrash it and put it to the tow test with all the goodies plugged in, and I will report back. I also have an extra set of ARP studs in the box if anyone needs them, I don't know if they are on backorder everywhere still.

Tim

whats up Tim,

If I didnt just have to replace my tranny again for the 3rd time id do the same setup as you. Its so tempting but till when do you tell yourself your spending to much on your truck ?? it goes on forever. Good luck let us know how it runs (hauls azz)

Hey George,
What's up Bro? Sorry to hear about the crappy trans. luck. I will let you know what happens, looks like I may be getting a new turbo, and I am installing a Fluidamper while it is apart. There is also a TSB for the serpentine belt idler/tensioner, sounds like a great time to take advantage of it! Who did your trans. this time?

hey Tim,

this time I actually took the truck to a dealership (star ford in glendale) for a bad injector, and while they were at it I had them do my brakes, fix my 4wd, and change the fluids. While they flushed the tranny they told me there was metal shavings and I should get a new one, turns out I blew a planetary gear. I then ordered a whole transmission from suncoast and had them install it. I didnt even know I had a bad tranny. I could only imagine how many more trannys ill have to go thru with that extra power I could push with the hypermax gasket and head studs lol. If you dont mind me asking how much are you going to end up spending on this project? and what program are you going to use? are you considering larger injectors and a different fuel pump?

Hey George!!!
I have about 1000 miles on it since the cab went back on... and I am digging it! No more coolant all over EVERYTHING, shocks, engine, AMP steps, etc. I have had both the SCT Excal tunes by themselves, and stacked with the Edge Juice on 3,4,5 settings, all which produced massive coolant loss before. While I was in there I got a new Turbo (warranty), and installed a Fluidamper. I also 'optimized' the EGR. The studs got torqued to 235 lbs. I will let you know more when I get some more miles on it.

have a great day bud!!

Tim

Hey Dan, Hypermaxengineering.com, the gaskets are really good quality, fit perfectly, and I am hoping have some serious longevity

Will the dealer, when faced with a blown gasket, put in a better gasket and studs like you did, or will they replace the bad design with another bad design.?
