Has anyone here ever used or have any comments good or bad about the Banks TowCommand Unit? I was told by a certain Diesel parts company not to use one because it tricks the tranny into taking fluid from other parts of itself(loss of lubrication) to increase line pressure.
I am currently running the Banks Transcommand. I just installed only one thousand miles. I have went through three E40D rebuilds in 130,000 miles. So I am trying the Banks before I buy a brand new (not rebuilt) tranny. So far it gives it a firmer shift. To do this it increases line pressure to reduce slipping. Yes it is all electronically controlled but I don't think it starves fluid from anywhere else. The E40D deffinately needs help there are mods internally that can be done if you are doing a rebuild that will make it stronger but I will try this first.I love my truck but the tranny has been the weekest link every since I have owned it. Good Luck
I agree with the tranny being the weak link for sure.Have you done any towing with it yet ? Does it help keep the truck from shifting into O.D. too soon?
unfortunately I have not towed with it yet. need to hook up my camper and see how it does. might do it tomorrow will let you know how it does. my tranny seems to slip when shifting from second to third pretty bad. It helps with the trans command but it didn't do as good as I thought but I do have 36" tires with 410 gears
Yeah ,I've got 35'S and 4.10's myself. I've gotta tow a 30 foot gooseneck with a 76 highboy and another cab on the trailer about 1100 miles next week. I don't have time to do any internal upgrades so I hope the transcommand works good.
Yeah! This is the last thing I will try! Next will be a monster tranny. Might see about the allison trannys dont know if it will fit in ford but will find something besides the E40D!
Well nothing except three rebuilds at a cost of $6200. I have heard of people doing mods that can make the E40D 10 times better but they are not in my area. Unfotunately when the tranny goes out I dont have time to find someone to do that work. So when this one goes I will not have another.
