I just installed a 5th wheel hitch in my 02.
On the brackets that go to the frame I only put one bolt in.
Is that enough?
I looked at my neighbours Chev and it has a dealer installed hitch with only one bolt in each bracket to the frame.
So theres 3 bolts on each slider rail going through the bed/box into the brackets on the frame, which have 1 bolt in each of them.
Only 1 hole lined up thats why I did it that way?
It looks as strong as the little pin that holds the whole 5th wheel table on top of the hitch.
I dont have any specs on bolting it down.
I used universal brackets which have 3 holes in them but from any Ive looked at they dont put 3 bolts in each bracket?
Its a major job to put more bolts in plus Id have to drill a bunch of holes in my frame.
It's approved by the manufacturer of my Draw-Tite and two of the brackets are also welded to the B&W Turn-over GN hitch brackets. Not used in a commercial application.
My gooseneck hitch has 2, 3/4 inch bolts and 1, 1/2 inch on eash side and it is 30,000 # hitch. My friend has the same hitch in his chevy and it only has 2, 5/8 bolts on each side!
You didn't say but if your truck is a F150 these work great. No drilling because it uses existing holes in the frame. I wish I had one of these when I ruined 3 drill bits on my 98 frame. I just installed one of these on my 06 F150 and it was a walk in the park compared to last time!
