Will a 302 auto out of a 1978 Zephyr swap into the 66F100?
Just happened to find one cheap and running?
Might be a stupid question but I'm new and will learn.
The generic answer is "Yes," but the long answer is "Not without a lot of parts and work."
You will need a lot of parts that won't be on the car. Your best and easiest solution is to buy a donor truck '68 or so to '79 that came with a 302, and harvest the necessary parts from the donor.
You are going to need a lot of parts.
If you go this way, you might want to consider that the 302 will cost you a lot more than it is worth, than you will save. If you get a donor truck with the options, engine size and transmission you want, then you can transplant everything and get what you want in the first place.
Be sure to post back with your project, and let us know how it goes!
Thanks i'll pass on the 302. Today i found a 77' 2wd shortbox chassis pretty much everything but motor and trans. Was going to buy the I beams complete with discs, and power components etc. as i want to do a conversion. Are there other parts i may need in the future would it be smarter to buy the whole truck?
Besides, that '78 was about the weakest POS ever to wear the 302 badge. You'd have had to go through it to make it worth the effort. I couldn't pull away from a 4 cylinder Toyota 4x4 with mine.....
(which brings back the painful memory of owning a '79 Heffer.....why why why)
