94 V6 Explorer shifting issues

Hey guys, new user here, and making this my "first stop"

Anyway, getting down to business. I've got a 94 Ford Explorer Eddie Baur Edition. V6, Auto trans, loaned to me by my aunt. She's asking that I try to fix the issue I describe below, but I'm stumped at this point.

My problem is, its "sticking" in 2nd gear, requiring me to left off the gas once its revved up kinda high (around 4 to 4.5k) to coax it into 3rd. I had an old camaro (I know, boo chevy, it blew up if that tells you anything, at least it was American) that did the exact same thing, and it was a simple matter of replacing the vacuum hose running off the intake manifold running to the tranny.

Well, in anticipation of this being the same kind of problem, I replaced the vacuum modulator on the trans. The hose is about 5 inches of rubber (in good condition) running to a metal hose also mounted on the top of the tranny... So now I'm at a loss. I've got the chiltons for it, but it only blurbs two quick paragraphs about replacing the modulator.

So what next? My aunt's mechanic insists that the tranny is shot and needs to be replaced, but it feels strong (no slippage at all) just revs high in 2nd and requires you to let off the gas for 3rd.

ideas or a point in the right direction to get answers would be great, and thanks!

did you check the vacuum line at the T fitting on the intake manifold (rear driver side), remember they must be a snug fit. While you are there look to make sure none of the other hoses have gone astray, they commonly do.

A friend has the same problem and we are about to R&R the tranny. Anything else to check besides the vacuum line first?

You might also want to check the vacuum line to see if there is any transmission fluid in it. If there is, the vacuum modulator needs to be replaced.

Already has a new modulator and the line is good. Found some other vacumm leaks and fixed them.

How many miles does it have...

How many miles does it have and has it ever had the tranny replaced?

I had a 94 do a similar thing but worse than it sounds for you and the transmission needed rebuilding. A tranmission guy i knew was able to do something temporary to it (im not sure exactly what) so that it lasted a couple months longer and shifted decent for a while.
