Question Spare tire carrier help needed

I have a '93 F150 XLT 2dr, 2wd, regular [8'] box. There is a class III trailor hitch installed [I believe factory] I also have dual fuel tanks. The spare tire is presently carried in the box [hooked to side] behind the driver. I want to move the tire underneath and below the rear tank.

I imagine Ford must have had some sort of special stock carrier for this hitch application [?] I see where there is plenty room and no obstruction front to back. There would be limited room side to side. I am hoping someone with a little more knowledge in this area might reply Is there anything I should look for.
ThanX in advance,
D.

I have a 95 Bauer with the duel tanks and 8 foot bed, tire carrier just before the bumper. On this truck, the bumper is rated as Class III (but won't accept the 2 inch square ball mount).

It sounds like there might be a clearance issue for you of a couple of inches if you were to retrofit a stock tire carrier and your trailer hitch. You could measure this using the frame mounting holes as a reference-compared to what you find in the junk yard or a willing owner in a parking lot ;-)

Smile ThanX for the reply

I measured and have enough room. I also have the original owners manual and it shows a carrier [bar/bracket] underneath which seems to attach from side to side, possibly to the frame. The drawing is not detailed. I have plenty of room to mount a carrier [bar/bracket] front to back and as a matter of fact on closer inspection I can see some larger pre drilled holes set diagonally, front to back. I am wondering if these might be for mounting the carrier. They seem to be spaced far enough apart. [hmmmm, project ahead]

My ? would then be, does anyone have any knowledge of how the factory towing package was set up and whether or not Ford did infact have a separate/different spare tire carrier to accomodate the installed hitch.
Thanx again

from the factory, there was a braket that went diagonally under the tire that held it up directly under the rear gas tank. then there were two rods holding the braket. as mentioned, several complanies offer parts for these. i will warn you, however, this isnt the handiest setup, expecially in muddy conditions.

Thumbs up ThanX Everyone ... The hunt begins!

I knew there had to be something. Just the way the hitch was fastened and where these holes were situated.

I won't feel so foolish when I try and explain to the guy in the scrap yard what I am looking for. [easier than trying to find/explain an imaginary part] My whole reason for this is I want to buy a cover and the spare sits too high in the box.

I'll bet this gets dirty underneath ... Worst fears would be a flat tire in the middle of a slushy snow storm

I was thinking of maybe fabricating something to protect the tire ... but hey, what the heck ... It' a truck and coming from a farm, she's probabley feels right at home, a little dirty ... me too as a matter of fact

ThanX again, to everyone who took the time to reply.

The parts for the spare tire assembly are still available from the Ford Parts Guy. The two long carrier bolts and the spare tire carrier and the spare tire bolt and the plastic retainer.

They were available when I bought the tire carrier one and a half years ago--and the part was just 30 days old!!
