My hangers popped off pretty easy with a little WD-40 and using a wrecking bar to pry from the frame to the hanger. On some I popped the hanger from the bushing and then removed the bushing from the frame pin.
Use a LOT of lube, hand cleaner works real good. And then use a lot of curse words and they will come out. But I'm wondering about that 5". I put a 4" on my 99 and had some clearence problems. I'm sure you will have even more problems, and remember that exhaust will expand when it gets hot. So if you put it on and after it gets hot you hear a nasty vibration, its the exhaust rubbing against the fire wall.

Never thought about hand cleaner have to try that sometime.
but the 5" exhaust still has a 4" downpipe, I assume that is the part you are talking about for clearence issues so it's no different than your setup there.
Got em!
Installation in progress. Well between beers.
My kinda guy, go get em'. I used dishwashing liquid, straight. Real slippery stuff, then rinses right off after reinstall so they will stay put. My 5" was tight but it is in there and not rubbing anything.
Install done and I am thinking that I should turn the muffler around.
Just not the sound I thought that it would be. Nice, but not what I want.
I have install matters also. The , over the axle pipe and exhaust section are touching the shock, and I can not make it aline off of it.
I will turn the muffler and shorten the straight pipe to fix the shock problem as soon as I have time.
Speaking of shocks..... I did look for one to through once!! LOL.
Did you have to choose between the spare or the shock? If so, the spare can be slid over about 1-1/2" and retightened. I have about 3/4" between each over my axle.
Yes, welcome to the big time. Now if moving that spare doesn't work for you, you may want to apply a small "adjustment" in the pipe where it is being uncooperative with the tool of your choice, I've found a hammer can work. It is a 5" pipe and won't adversely affect it that much.
Now don't rush into the muffler change just yet, give it some seat time and have somebody do a few drive bys. Or better yet, get out on a road next to your truck and drive along next to it and hear what it sounds like at different throttle/load settings. You just might have a change of heart.

I have not moved anything yet. I found out that when I bought the truck from the dealer used, they did not check to make sure the jack and spare tire tools were there......nor did I!
I'll just have to pull the boat with it like it is today, and give a call to the dealer tomorrow.
Thanks for that tip, I think it will help me out.
Still plan on turning the muffler!!!!
Let me know how it sounds when the muffler is "spun."
My truck has a "cowboy" rear bumper.(As I'm sure you know, NJ is famous for its cowboys) It's a 10" drop-down and heavy gauge steel. There was a welded pipe from the opening in the bumper toward the crank to let down the spare. Problem was, their alignment was "off." About 10 degrees off. About 1/2 hour of cutting and now it works. Having a dually, the spare is in the way more than anything. It's still the factory spare tire and was encrusted in place.
The 5" pipe will fit without having to remove the spare.. It took me a while but after several adjustments I have clearance on the shock and the spare. Just take your time and Dont tighten anything up till you have got everything where you want it. Once you tighten the clamps it is hard to go back and seperate or turn the pipes once they have been crimped from the clamp. I have no clearance issues with my 5" system.

Well, too late for that. I never thought about the pipes crimping. I have everything were I want it but for the shock. No rubbing sounds yet. I have not noticed any drone either, but I have not put the windows up yet!!!
One day this week I will climb under the truck and get the spare moved over and work on that area, maybe turn that muffler too.
