My newly aquired 77 150 4x4 turn signals will only work on the left front and the right rear. I have checked continuity from the connecter under the dash and the connections to all four blinker lights are good. I would guess it is a turn signal switch problem, but that was supposed to be new. Anyone have an idea how the switch could fail in such a way?
The instument cluster is largely non functional, could that be involved?
The front and back Turn Signals of the truck are isolated through the turn signal switch. Your brake lights also go through the switch, hence why the turn signals in the back flash apropriatly even with the brakes applied. And why the fronts only flash and not stay lit with the brakes. (the exception to this is the when the hazard flasher circut is activated)
You said you checked the wires... Did you check the grounds? Clean them, a bad ground can cause weird things...
Do your brake lights work? Does the left one go out when the turn signal switch is activated to the left?
Does all four hazzard lights flash. Do all four stop flashing when the brakes are applied, with the hazzards activated?
check for power coming out of the switch, on the affected circuts. Front right and left rear. if power from the brake lights is going through the Left rear TS wire, but does not when the TS is activated, IE not flashing, it's most likely the switch is at fault.
Thanks everyone. It did turn out to be in the turn signal switch. I finally pulled the steering wheel and looked and found a poor connection . by cleaning the contacts and bending the cam contact wires a little I got it all working.
