I've been working on my '71 a bit lately, got to get it done! Cruising season is here and all I have to cruise in is a '93 Escort Wagon!!! This morning I updated the pictures in my gallery. Take a look and tell me what you think. If you're a restoration purist, don't flame me too bad! The truck is not quite stock.....
Thanks guys, I've had the old truck for 15 years. Now that I'm retired I finally have the time to finish it. The frame is a rust preventative with a coat of semi-gloss black over it.
Well, had some time again, got the interior painted on my '71. Next I'll be finishing up the box and painting the outside of the truck... I put a couple more pics in may gallery if anyone is interested.
Thanks Dustin. The truck will have the same colors on the outside... Hopefully I can get things caught up this week and get back on the '71 by Friday or Saturday.... I have to finish up the "wiring and firing" part of another project this week and get it sent off to the upholstery shop... With a little luck things will go smoothly and can have it gone by Thursday afternoon.
Yup, this old antique body of mine doesn't function all that well when it's warm, when the shop is cold, I just don't go there!!! Really turning into a wuss, I turn the heat up to 70, then sit in the house and drink coffee for an hour while it warms up..... To think years ago I used to change transmissions outside in the winter with my hi tech "ramp" made out of an old front end alignment rack!!! But hey, getting old ain't for sissies!!!!!!
72, as for the valve covers, I know there is a torque spec probably about 15 ft. lbs. I just use a 1/4" drive ratchet and socket and tighten them to snug, starting on the center bolts and moving outward. Kind of the same pattern as torquing a cylinder head...
Well, I finally had the opportunity to spend a bit more time on my '71. I got the inside of the doors painted, doors hung and adjusted, the new door seals installed, and the first buffing done on the dash. Also got the wheels sandblasted and primed, they'll be red like the rest of the red on the body. Also got word from my upholstery guy that my seat and headliner is done!!!! It too is red and white. Hopefully I can get back at it this week sometime and finish getting the rest of the body ready for paint. Added a new pic in my gallery if you're interested...
Flame yeah are you kidding we love pics especially of restoration progress ill have to hand it to you keep up the fantastic work and i wish you good luck on finishing it by summer
